Phase 2 of the Sendai Framework Monitor allows customized targets and indicators
By Jeanette Elsworth
27 August 2018, GENEVA – The second phase of the online monitoring system for the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 – the global roadmap for reducing losses as a result of disasters – is now live and available to member states.
Phase 2 is an important step because it allows member states, who endorsed the Sendai Framework, to set up nationally defined and customized targets and indicators in addition to those previously identified under the global targets A to G monitoring against which began in March this year.
As well as monitoring overall progress against the Framework, this will contribute towards the monitoring of Target E: to increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies.
The Sendai Framework outlines a broad range of recommendations and suggested measures for nations to consider and developing customized targets is encouraged in order to establish which of these are relevant to their context and reality.
A set of guidelines on how to set and report against targets accompanies the launch.
