“The implementation of the Sendai Framework strongly contributes to the positive narrative in Europe allowing for our societies to engage in their resilient and sustainable future. Methods and tools of disaster risk reduction also provide powerful means for joint action and confidence building among OSCE participating States and between different stakeholders,” Ms. Madi said.

“The OSCE region faces a game-changing situation, with an unprecedented confluence of transnational and global challenges, including devastating extreme weather events, climate challenges and other risks”, said Mr. Vuk Žugić, Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities.

Mr. Laurent Fabius, French President of the Constitutional Council and former COP21 President, said OSCE, the largest regional security organization in the world, should increase its involvement in the fight against the threat presented by climate change to international peace and security.

“The OSCE can share experiences and good practices on climate change adaptation measures and the development of climate resilient infrastructure”, he said.

“Our ultimate goal is to create an international network of centres to promote the exchange of information on disasters and to maintain the preparedness of national, regional and international forces to respond to disasters,” said Mr. Vladimir Kuvshinov, Secretary General of the International Civil Defence Organization.

The conference brought together some 200 representatives from the diplomatic and business community, governments, international organizations, academia and civil society.
